![]() Then there are the times where suffering becomes real in our lives, or for someone who we care deeply. But even for the atheist, who can only say that suffering is, there is still the profound sense of the “wrongness” of suffering and why one thinks it wrong. For the Christian or other theists, it raises the question of how we are to understand a good and powerful God allowing evil and suffering. Suffering raises profound questions for every human being. This serves both as an introduction to the subject of theodicy and provides pastoral and personal resources for responding to people in pain, including one’s own suffering. Summary: This book surveys seven different approaches to the question of why pain and suffering if there is a God. ![]() ![]() Richard Rice (Downers Grove, IL: InterVarsity Press, 2014). As part of his groundbreaking research, Steigerwald read the original manuscript of Travels With Charley at New York's Morgan Museum and Library, where he discovered that the book's first draft was heavily edited to remove Steinbeck's New Deal politics and create the myth of an open-minded journey. Yet as Bill Steigerwald revealed in Reason's April 2011 issue, Steinbeck's work of "nonfiction" is riddled with fictional people and events and offers a mostly inaccurate portrait of the Nobel laureate's actual travels. Since then it has become a classic American road book, loved by millions on account of Steinbeck's quirky humor, vivid descriptions of the natural world, and wise and cranky observations about America and its people. ![]() ![]() ![]() Editor's Note: When John Steinbeck's Travels With Charley in Search of America was first published 50 years ago on July 27, 1962, it quickly sold hundreds of thousands of copies and stayed on the nonfiction bestseller lists for over a year. ![]() ![]() ![]() Jacinda Townsend’s remarkable first novel is a coming-of-age story made at once gripping and poignant by the wild energy of the Jazz Era and the stark realities of segregation. He also dislikes Tris, the protagonist or main character in the book. ![]() In the novel, Peter is depicted as very violent and always trying to dominate everyone. Transferring this violence from the book to a movie is very difficult and at the end several aspects are omitted. Most stories feature a violent character who is often the villain and is overcome by the protagonist. For instance, the overall pace of the narrative account, violence, actions, and suspense are different between the novel and film. The Divergent contains aspects different from those that are seen in the movie. By reading a novel, you can know the author’s thoughts and reasoning that leads to the actions therein. With a film, the things they can do one is limited, unlike in a book where the content is almost limitless. A movie adapted from a book may be significantly different from each other in the plot and execution. ![]() ![]() ![]() Introducing the MIT Walker Collection - bringing innovative new STEAM books written by expertsĪlyssa Gardner has been down the rabbit hole.25 books about the outdoors to inspire your green-fingered kids for National Gardening Week. ![]() Announcing the Children's and Young Adult Jhalak Prize Shortlist.Empathy Day steps up a gear as it returns for its seventh year – at a time of great need.20+ Brilliant Books Featuring Unforgettable Deaf or Hard of Hearing Characters for Deaf Awareness Week.Celebrate King Charles III and his Coronation with these Majestic Children's Books.New imprint, Pineapple Lane, launches with seven Ukrainian picture books.Sally Anne Garland and The Art of the Every Day.Fit for a King and May Day Madness!
